Summary of Responsibilities
Supports Production through job coverage for daily operational job functions and required survey activities for product and radiological shipments. Provides support to maintain regulatory compliance with regulations such as 10CFR20 to ensure radiological safety for workers, plant and environment. Requires ANSI 3.1 (6000 hours documented radiation protection experience).
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school, Navy ELT, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years’ experience in radiation protection
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
- 7+ years’ experience in radiation protection
Certifications
- Radiation Protection Certificate: NRRPT
Job Details
- Work Location: Urenco USA, Eunice, NM
- Work Schedule: Professional work schedule with minimal night/weekend support. Some nights and weekend work may be required.
- Travel Required: 10% of the time or less is required
- Security Clearance Requirement: Controlled Access Area (CAA) and an L or Q level security clearance is required.
- Emergency Response Requirements: Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duty may be required; including being on-call (24/7) during your designated team duty week.

- Responsible for the protection of confidential and proprietary information received during employment, including keeping information in strict confidence, exercising a reasonable degree of care to prevent disclosure to others, not disclosing or divulging either directly or indirectly information to others, and not using the information commercially or for any other purpose other than the performance of their duties for Urenco. Confidential information includes information and data of any kind concerning any matters affecting or relating to Urenco business or operations, including compensation, investigations, financial controls, etc.
Primary Functions
- Organize, lead and complete complex work activities as assigned (at a nuclear fuels facility licensed by the NRC), without direct supervision, and in accordance with approved plant procedures, processes and programs. This is the most experienced/seasoned of Radiation Protection technician level; capable of leading/mentoring diverse work teams. Contributor is a subject matter expert in radiation protection.
- Support radiological phases of emergency planning and emergency response as needed.
- Organize, lead and complete complex radiation protection tasks and assignments relative to the support of plant operations of a wide variety of equipment, programs, or systems at URENCO USA.
- Exercise good judgment and decision making, professionalism and command and control skills in the conduct of assigned work to assure Radiation Protection programs and procedures are implemented responsibly and safely.
- Facilitate post-job debriefings documenting lessons learned and work practice improvements. Immediately report defects, deficiencies, or anomalies within the facility to supervision and follow the corrective action protocol.
- Provide management with recommendations for corrective actions, policies and process improvements regarding radiation safety.
- Assist in lesson plan development and administering classroom training.
- Administer on-the-job-training (OJT) and task performance evaluations (TPE).
- Create new procedures, initiate changes to existing procedures, and review procedure changes.
- Develop Radiation Work Permits.
- Perform Interdisciplinary and Independent reviews.
- Perform duties delegated by RP Lead Technician or RP Supervisor.
- Provide guidance and transfer knowledge gained from experience to less experienced Radiation Protection Technicians including equipment operation, radiation protection job coverage and procedures/protocol compliance.
- Coordinate, schedule and facilitate the completion of the weekly task matrix schedule.
- Notify Operations, Maintenance, or Chemistry personnel of potential changes in radiological postings and conditions as a result of assigned work that may impact plant radiological or chemical conditions or releases.
- Conduct a pre-job inspection and conduct pre-job briefs associated with pending work assignments.
- Maintain instrument logs that record performance problems, repairs, calibrations and retests.

Compensation Range
$98,761 - $131,094 / year and up dependent on candidate.
