Summary of Responsibilities

The Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Principal Engineer will be a senior level engineer who, as a member of a design team, delivers Front End Engineering (FEED) including technical feasibility and best available technology (BAT) studies while;

  • acting as a C&I lead engineer in the delivery of Conceptual and Basic Design of new build or modifications of (production) facilities; providing direction and oversight regarding design and development to third party engineering service providers,
  • developing Urenco group design standards to meet world class safety standards, site license requirements and providing competitive advantages to be the supplier of choice in the Nuclear (Enrichment) business, and
  • providing expert knowledge and advice from a senior technical perspective on plant design requirement specifications including asset protection and management strategy, CapEx plans, and safety.
Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or a Master’s degree in Engineering or other science or technical field.
  • 80-10 years of years of experience of practical application in Instrumentation and Controls, Programmable Logic Controllers is required.
  • Change Authority experience (e.g., 70.72, 50.59, 95.19, USQE).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Process Automation or Robotics and a Professional Engineering (PE) license obtained by accredited examination.
  • 8 Years or more experience in Instrumentation & Controls, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), with two to three years of that experience being in an industrial chemical and or nuclear environment.
  • 2-3 Years of experience at a Part 70 licensee performing licensing functions.
  • Design Integrated Safety Basis Development, HAZOP, Documented Safety Analysis experience.
Job Details
  • Work Location: Dallas. TX. Hybrid travel to Eunice, NM as necessary.
  • Work Schedule: Professional work schedule/ with minimal night/ weekend support. Some nights and weekend work may be required. Employees are also subject to call-outs as needed.
  • Travel Required: 15% of the time or less as required
  • Security Clearance Requirement: Controlled Access Area (CAA) Access and an L or Q level security clearance is required.

Essential Skills

The ideal candidate will be a recognized specialist in their area of expertise with a high, in-depth level of knowledge and problem solving skills as well as have demonstrated work history in applied practice. This ideal candidate will also have experience or professional exposure to physics programming, modeling (process simulation) and/or computational dynamics with demonstrated experience in software and hardware development from the beginning to the end of the design life cycle.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to represent the site on regulatory matters and articulate compelling arguments. Must be familiar with NRC’s enforcement program.
  • Must have knowledge of applicable regulations and understand the regulatory process.
  • Must be able to propose and implement changes for the facility.
  • Must have a demonstrated track record in successful design delivery involving conceptual designs and FEED of complex process facilities.

Primary Functions
  • This individual must be able to independently perform and lead analysis and design activities ensuring plant designs and as-built facilities meet site requirements as well as Urenco’s design and engineering standards throughout the entire asset design life cycle. Standards consist of (nuclear) safety requirements, site license requirements, regulatory compliance requirements and Urenco state-of-the-art, qualified systems and best practices.
  • Actively promote a pro-active safety culture and perform analysis to create and promote continual safety process improvement behaviors.
  • Ensure advanced plant designs contain safety features based on best industrial practice and lessons learned from an industrial nuclear environment.
  • Determine C&I (automation) design engineering aspects, options and evaluation in contribution to feasibility/optioneering/best available technology studies.
  • Delivery of Conceptual Design and Design Specifications with focus on C&I expertise area.
  • Delivery of Basic Design packages concerning Core Plant Technology (CPT) with respect to C&I systems and equipment.
  • Provide directions and oversight concerning Detailed Design and supplier manufacturing quality processes on request of site or group project managers.
  • Define and maintain Core Plant Technology (CPT) designs and expertise on the basis of Urenco best (safety) practice and world class state-of-the-art technology (Design Technology Excellence Center).

Compensation starting at: $130383 - $162979 / year and up dependent on candidate.
