Summary of Responsibilities
Support operations related to the receipt, storage, inspection, onsite movement, and shipment of new, clean, and uranium-containing cylinders and shipping containers. This position involves handling and labeling containerized hazardous and radioactive materials.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1+ years’ of relevant experience operating heavy equipment or utilizing mechanical or logistical skills
- Strong communication, computer skills, and procedure writing knowledge are a plus
- Associate’s degree (A.A) or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school
- 3+ years of relevant experience operating heavy equipment or utilizing mechanical or logistical skills
- Work location: Urenco USA, Eunice, NM.
- Work Schedule: 9/80 work week, 6a start. Some nights and weekend support may be required. Employees are also subject to call-outs as needed.
- Travel Required: 10% of the time or less as required.
- Security Clearance Requirement: Controlled Access Area (CAA) Access and an L or Q level security clearance is required.
- Work Environment: Radiological exposure expectations of < 100 mrem/yr. This job operates in an industrial/plant environment.
- Under supervision and guidance this role will prepare and stage Nuclear Material Containers for shipment to internal and external customers.
- Ensuring the containers meet ANSI specifications, inspecting and operating heavy equipment such as overhead cranes, forklifts, pallet jacks, rigging, yard tractor/trailers, and recording movements in the SAP database.
- Learn to prepare Nuclear Material Containers for shipment. This includes support activities such as handling, packaging and documenting hazardous and radioactive material; manage storage areas; ensuring all results, materials, processes and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to transportation regulation requirements.
- Learning how to perform IROFS inspections IAW NRC material license requirements.
- Learn and perform the duties of nuclear radiation worker employing sound radiological work practices to minimize the spread of contamination and generation of contaminated waste and ensure that work is performed in a manner such that the radiation dose received is “as low as reasonably achievable” (ALARA).
- Obtain a general understanding of the URENCO USA process system and safety systems and exhibit the characteristics of a nuclear professional: high work standards, questioning attitude, conservative decision-making, and striving for excellence in all aspects of job by demonstrating good teamwork skills and strong personal integrity.
- E xercise good judgment, decision making, and skills to ensure safe, error-free handling of containers and associated equipment and systems: must demonstrate the aptitude and discipline to acquire skills to safely operate and inspect heavy equipment in strict compliance with procedures.
- Learn how to maintain and prepare timely, complete, accurate, and strictly factual operational records and problem reports for equipment problems and human errors.
- Learn how to update procedures changes and notify team and management.
- Assist with maintenance activities and perform routine housekeeping activities.
- Ancillary tasks may include, but are not limited to: purchasing equipment or plant consumables, procedure maintenance, training tasks.
- Using overhead 20M ton Gantry Crane, Yard Truck and maneuvering trailers, Rigging, and operating rail transporter.
- Complete internal training, qualifications, and certification of various Container Handling tasks (equipment pertinent to internal CRDB loading) within 1 year of hire and maintain training currency in accordance with regulations, codes and license requirements.
- Licenses, Certifications or Registrations: Attain and maintain a US government L-level security clearance, complete Hazardous Materials Shipping training and ensure compliance with 49CFR, IATA, IMDG, and any other foreign regulations as applicable for all shipment and receipt activities, maintain equipment in accordance with 10CFR71 Subpart H, ASME, and ANSI requirements.
